What are One-Step Equations?
An equation is a mathematical statement that shows two expressions are equal. A **one-step equation** requires just one operation to solve for the unknown variable.
The key is to use **inverse operations** to "undo" what's been done to the variable. The goal is to get the variable all by itself on one side of the equals sign. $$x + 5 = 12$$ The variable, x, has 5 added to it. To "undo" this, we subtract 5 from both sides. $$x + 5 - 5 = 12 - 5$$ $$x = 7$$
