Intro & Concept
When you have a math problem with more than one operation (like addition and multiplication), you need to follow a special set of rules called the Order of Operations. This makes sure everyone gets the same answer every time! We can remember the order using the acronym PEMDAS. 📝
PEMDAS stands for:
- Parentheses: Solve anything inside parentheses first.
- Exponents: Solve any exponents (like $2^3$) next.
- Multiplication and Division: Do these from left to right.
- Addition and Subtraction: Do these last, also from left to right.
Remember: M and D are a team! A and S are a team! If you see multiplication and division, do whichever one comes first as you read the problem from left to right. The same goes for addition and subtraction. ➡️
